YUZIK – Lawrence It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence Yuzik of Swift Current, SK announces his passing on July 11, 2013 at his home. Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle will be missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Magdalena; his three boys, Kerry (Heidi) Yuzik, Myron (Kathy) Yuzik, Kent (Annette) Yuzik; and his 8 grandchildren Joshua, Jesse, Tori, Riley, Danielle, Angela, Kadin and Abigail, all of Swift Current. He is also survived by Brothers and Sisters; Violet (Garry) Edel, Nettie (Wesley) Britton, Allan (Gloria) Yuzik, John (Linda) Yuzik, Ernest Yuzik, Shirley (Harvey) Babcock, Patricia (Allen) Gelowitz, Marlene Mucha, Ronald (Glenda) Yuzik, Joanne Caira, Herb Fuchs and many sisters and brothers-inlaw and nephews and nieces. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents Gus and Anastasia Yuzik, brother William Yuzik, sister Sylvia Fuchs, mother and father-in-law Wenzel and Katherine Appel, sisters-in-law Gloria Yuzik and Darlene Appel, and brothers-in-law Clifford Schutz and Dennis Mucha. Lawrence was born on March 8, 1940 in Yorkton, SK and grew up in the Rhein area. Lawrence started working at a young age with his first job at CN Rail. He was working at a Potash Mine in Esterhazy, SK when he met and married his partner for life, Magdalena Appel, on June 6, 1964. Lawrence built a home in Saskatoon and worked at a Potash Mine and construction sites. In 1974, Lawrence would move his family to Swift Current, SK to become a partner in Swift Mechanical. 1976 would bring a significant change in his life as Lawrence struck out on his own and opened up Chinook Refrigeration. This would become a true family business for Lawrence with Magdalena looking after the office and all three boys and one grandchild working in the company. Most of the grandchildren also work there throughout the busy summer months. Lawrence would semi-retire from the company in his early 60’s, but stayed active by partnering with 2 friends to develop Meadowview Condominiums in Swift Current. Lawrence, along with another parishioner, would make it a personal project to design, build, install lighting and mount the cross on the peak of Christ the Redeemer parish during their renovation. The Phase 1 project and the future Phase 2 project for Christ the Redeemer Parish were very personal and dear to his heart. Lawrence enjoyed working at the shop with the boys and doing little projects for the family and was never truly retired. Lawrence was an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, held almost all positions in the executive and was an active member. He held a strong belief in his faith and could be found at his church doing maintenance on the heating/cooling equipment, participating in a building committee meeting or greeting and ushering at a weekend mass. Lawrence’s family was the most important thing in his life. He enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for his family. He enjoyed all of his grandchildren and tried to attend all of their functions whether it was hockey, soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, dance, figure skating or school concerts. He was most proud of each and every one of them. The prayer service for Lawrence was held on Monday, July 15 at Christ the Redeemer Parish with Vivian Bosch leading. Tributes were shared by Kent Yuzik and grandchildren Danielle and Kadin. Special music was provided by Allan Gelowitz, Vivian Bosch and Father Edward Hengen. Lawrence’s Funeral was held at Christ the Redeemer Parish on Tuesday, July 16 with Father Richard Jasiak and Father Sathiadas Antony officiating. Honor guards were provided by the 3rd and 4th degree members of the Knights of Columbus. Readings were read by grandchildren Angela and Tori with Danielle and Kadin presenting intentions. Offeratory gifts were presented by grandchildren Joshua, Jesse and Riley. Pianist was Marlene Dolter. Pall bearers were Cameron Britton, Bradley Britton, Curtis Britton, Randall Britton, Dwayne Yuzik and Jason Prokosch. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery. The memories and stories of Lawrence will be forever cherished by the family and everyone who knew Lawrence. The family would like express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Cypress Regional Hospital and the Saskatchewan Cancer Centre for the care that they provided Lawrence. The help and compassion that was provided by Swift Current Home Care aides, Nurses and Parkside Memorial Funeral Home was outstanding and will always be remembered.
