HENDRY – It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mom, Gramma and Great-gramma – Dorothy Emblyn (Dyer) Hendry, of Swift Current on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge. Dorothy was born on November 2, 1923 on the Dyer farm near Kelso, SK. Dorothy is survived by her 5 daughters and one son – Shirley (Stan) Klassen – S.C., Linda (Sam) Zanidean – S.C., Jim (Cathy) Hendry – Grande Prairie, AB, Jean (Lionel) Regier – S.C., Joyce (Don) Dodson – Calgary, AB and Roberta (Jim) Barber – S.C. Dorothy has 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her brother Alan Dyer and wife Tilly – Penticton, B..C., sister-in-law Betty Dyer – Calgary, AB, brother-in-law Jim Hendry – Moosomin, SK and sister-in-laws Beatrice Coutts – Moosomin, SK and Violet McPherson – Broadview, SK and many, many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by husband Albert (Dodie) in 1997, her parents Joe and Laura Dyer, sister – Laura Westbury, husband Cliff,; brothers – John Alfred, wife May; Stan; Chester, wife Nan; sister – Hazel Tooke, husband Arn. as well as a niece and two nephews. Also, her in-laws William and Elizabeth Hendry, sister-in-law Evelyn Hendry, husband Jack; Isabelle Greenbank, husband Bob; brother-in-law Donald McPherson and brother-in-law Alex Coutts. Dorothy married Albert (Dodie) Hendry on November 5, 1945 at Beverly, SK. They farmed at Kelso, SK for six years and then moved into Swift Current in 1951. Dorothy worked at V&W grocery store, Lee Lam’s grocery store, Post Office, banquets, Janitor work and housework for other people. They were all part-time jobs but she enjoyed all of them. Dorothy was a Legion member and enjoyed the Tuesday afternoon crib games played with friends, she was also a member of the Senior Centre and went every Monday she could to enjoy the time there, Wednesdays and Fridays were spent with her girls for lunch and shopping, Thursdays was a time to spend with a friend having breakfast together and weekends were always very busy. We all have afghans made by mom/gramma and some have learned to follow the recipe for mom’s famous bread donuts, that we would share with all our friends. She loved to bake homemade buns and pies and had many, many family get-togethers to share. As a couple, Dorothy and Dodie loved to dance and to the very end, mom’s toes were twitching to Don Williams. A Spring Dance was held at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge which mom took part in and we had a hard time getting her to sit one or two out. Dorothy loved her family dearly and would do anything for them. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. from the First United Church with Rev. Ruth McArthur officiating. The pianist was Barb Klassen. The pallbearers were grandsons: Darrald Zanidean, Kelly Klassen, Brad Zanidean, Greg Hendry, Gary Hendry, and Duane Regier. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Craig Klassen, David Regier and Scott Barber. The interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
