Obituary of Ruben Beisel

BEISEL Mr. Ruben of Gull Lake, SK, formerly of Tompkins passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Gull Lake Special Care home at the age of 90 years. Ruben was born on March 2, 1923 to David and Amelia Beisel on the family farm in the Rush Lake, SK District. Ruben left the family farm at about 16 years of age and worked as a farm laborer for many years. Ruben and his brother Ed purchased a farm in Manitoba and sold the farm after being flooded out in 1954. At which time Ruben moved to Tompkins, SK where he worked as a mechanic and farm laborer. In 1961 Ruben was hired on at the Casey Ranch where he stayed until 1966 where Ruben moved to his brother Dave’s as a farm hand for about a year. Ruben then moved into Tompkins and worked for Leonard Stewart as a carpenter while working on his journeyman in carpentry. Ruben was the Peace Officer of Tompkins for a brief time in about 1970. He then moved back to the Casey Ranch as a farm hand until he purchased some land from Keith and Marion Casey in 1973. Ruben also leased the Stubbs farm from the Saskatchewan Government. Ruben then continued in farming until he retired in 1999 and moved to Gull Lake, SK. Ruben was predeceased by his parents, David and Amelia; one sister in infancy; three brothers: Clarence, Edward and David; and one sister, Rachel Luckey. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Esther; two sons, Curtis Beisel (Adele St. Jacques), and Barry Beisel; and one grandson, Steven Beisel; two sisters, Lily Steingard and Edna MacRae; two brothers, Sam Beisel and Hubert (Ann) Beisel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elks Hall with Reverend Bev Diduck officiating. The Eulogy was prepared by his niece, Yvonne Potter. The Honorary Pallbearers were all those who shared in his life. A Lunch was served by the United Church Women’s Group. Memorial donations may be made to the Gull Lake Special Care Home or to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
