Obituary of Sarah Tait
Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sarah Tait (nee Grout) – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Tait at the age of 65 on November 5th, 2013 with her husband and daughter at her side. Sarah was born on September 3rd, 1948 to Charles and Marie Grout in Swift Current, SK. She was the youngest of 3 daughters, baby sister to Margaret VanRompaey and Cecilia Peters. She attended Oman and Beatty schools. Sarah worked as a carhop at the Dog N’ Suds until she met her husband Grant. After 5 weeks and 5 days Sarah married Grant on October 24th, 1967. She became a mother in 1969 to daughter Mitzy and the birth of their son Chad in 1973 completed their little family. Together with her husband they began and built Tait Construction where she worked by her husband’s side. After building two new houses they found their dream farm south of the city where Sarah became the farmer she always wanted to be. Sarah nurtured just about every farm animal there was which included having her own milk cow and the first of many horses that would come and go over the years. Sarah shared Mitzy’s passion of horses. As her children grew up, she opened her doors to all of Mitzy and Chad’s friends. Coffee was always on and her door was always open for a meal, a coffee or just to talk. For a while Sarah sold Electrolux vacuum cleaners and also pursued her enjoyment of hairdressing. The years continued and she opened her heart for Jamie, Chad’s wife and Darren, Mitzy’s husband. Being a grandmother to Jace, Jaxon and Mylan was her greatest joy. Family was of utmost importance to Sarah. Country music, playing her guitar and singing was Sarah’s hobby. Often she would entertain guests and friends with her singing when they travelled. Sarah loved a good sing-song. Some of Sarah’s favorite songs to sing included Saskatchewan Girl and I’m Going to Hire a Wino, in which the words were her own. In 2009 Sarah and Grant sold their business to their son Chad. For many winters Sarah and Grant would travel to different places to see how the rest of world lived. The past 5 years they RV’d the southern states during the winter months, making many new friends along the way. They also met up with many old friends from around Swift Current and area. Sarah thoroughly enjoyed camping and site-seeing. The winter of 2011-12 they put more than 1300 miles driving their side-by side around the desert. Most summers were spent going on fishing trips and attending annual trail rides with Mitzy and family. In December of 2012 Sarah was diagnosed with cancer and began her courageous battle. This past year during Sarah’s illness she made the most of her time by spending it with her loved ones. Sarah was so proud of her children’s accomplishments with Chad taking over the business and Mitzy pursuing her dream with her horses and writing. Taking great pride in her children and grandchildren kept her going. Sarah and Grant celebrated their 46th Anniversary on October 24th. Sarah is survived by her loving husband Grant and children Mitzy (Darren Zeller), grandson Mylan and Chad (Jamie) and grandsons, Jace and Jaxon, her sisters Margaret VanRompaey (Mel) and Cecilia Peters (Henry) and numerous nieces and nephews. Sarah was predeceased by her father Charles Grout in 1952 and her mother Marie Gerbrand in 1996. Sarah’s smile and positive attitude are an inspiration for all those, whose lives she touched. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, November 9, at Eastside Church of God with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. The Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren, Jace Tait, Jaxon Tait and Mylan Zeller. The interment was held at Schanzenfeld Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation. Arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
