REID – Donald Charles – On October 6th 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Don passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side. Don was born in Saskatoon SK. On June 18th 1965. He was raised in Swift Current SK. Where he attended Ashley Park, O.M. Irwin and the Swift Current Comprehensive High School. Don was very athletic; he enjoyed Hockey, baseball, golf and high school football, until an injury caused him to have to enjoy these sports from the stands. Don always had lots of energy and was a hard worker, even at a young age he would do an honest day’s work. He started off with several paper routes, then as a youth he worked side by side with his dad doing construction work. Don could hardly wait to get his driver’s licence. And once he got it there was no turning back, he drove, and smashed up many family vehicles until he perfected his driving skills and saw the potential in it. He counted down the days until he turned 18 and could take the truck driver training course in Moose Jaw, which he passed with flying colors and from that point on he proudly held a perfect driving record. He took a job at Revelstoke Concrete and drove cement trucks for a few years, but he heard the highway calling his name so with help from his parents he bought a used truck and tested out the highway for a while. He found his calling. Truck driving was in his blood. He wore out 4 new trucks and a few others along the way. Don saw every province and state on the continent. (He couldn’t drive to Hawaii but that didn’t matter because he had already been there on a family holiday.) He was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Don will be remembered for so many things, he had a very strong, deep voice. You could easily pick him out in a crowd. If you were ever privileged to hear him sing you would never forget it. Don was always a pillar of strength for anyone who needed him; he was very kind and compassionate and would go to bat for anyone he loved. In 1999 when his mom was battling cancer and lost all of her hair, Don showed up at their door completely bald! He shaved his beautiful blond hair off to take some of the attention away from his mom. Family was very important to Don, he loved gatherings over the holidays, and numerous family vacations, He always said one day he would marry and have a bunch of kids! His dream came true when he met Heather. Don and Heather were married on June 25th 2011, on that day Don became a step dad to 5 wonderful kids. He loved each one of them as if they were his own. He was very proud of who they were and the things they accomplished. He would brag about each one of them to who ever would listen. It took Don a long time to find the love of his life, but Don and Heather shared so much love, laughter and memories in the few years they were allotted, the time they had together was the happiest years of his life. Don was predeceased by his grandparents, James M Reid (1974) Myrtle M. Reid (1992) John Andrew Crozier (1988) Lucy Emily Crozier (1995) His brother David George Reid (1990). Father-in-law Oscar Jacob Mann (2005). Mother-in-law, (Mary) Eleanor Mann (2009), and several beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Don leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Heather, and children, Chris, Nathan, Brittany, Tanner and Haylee; his parents, George and Wynn Reid; brother Doug (Trina) Reid; sister Donna (Steve) Peters and their children Morgan and Tyra; his sisters-in-law, Caren Mann, Gail Mann-Field (Sam) and their children Jacob and Simon; brothers-in-law, Larry (Karen) Mann and their children Jordan and Brendan. Bruce (Kim) Mann and their children Alexandra, Joshua, and Lucas. Brian (Laurie) Mann and their children Braeden, Keagen and Dawson. And many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family would like extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tumbach, Dr. Swan, Dr. Trickovic and the home care nurses for the wonderful care they gave to Don which allowed him to remain at home where he wanted to be with his wife and family until God called him home. The funeral service for Don was held at Bridgeway Community Church on Friday October 10th 2014 with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
