Glen David Rittinger
July 23, 1951-December 21, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague. He is survived by his wife Connie, son Tyler (Krista Sego) Nora and Aubrie, daughter Erin (Chris Baillie) Seth, Trey and Tora, his mother Mina and siblings Diane, Cam (Jan), Jim (Janay), Laurie (Lorne) Swalm and Kevin as well as their families. He will also be missed by Connie’s family; mother in-law Val Morstad, siblings Joan (Gerry) Ailsby, Anne (Rene) Deschamps, Garth (Leah) Morstad, Avis (Darrell) Dahl including their families. Extended family and numerous friends near and far also share in the loss. Glen attended school in Swift Current graduating in 1969. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1973 from the University of Saskatchewan and went on to become a Chartered Accountant. He returned to Swift Current and thereafter became a partner in 1977 at what is now known as Stark & Marsh, where he was a valued part of the firm for 38 years. Glen loved his career, which was reflected in the respect and trust he developed with his colleagues and clients. In 1997 he was recognized by the CA profession by being awarded his FCA designation, and in 2008 he was appointed Chair of SaskWater Board of Directors. His professional experience and community leadership were evident as he served as President of the Swift Current Kiwanis Club and Swift Current Minor Hockey, among other community projects. In September 1972, Glen and Connie were married and the family grew to include Tyler in 1975 and Erin in 1977. He enjoyed many sports in his youth and later was extremely involved in his children’s sports and activities. Glen led an adventurous life as he and Connie travelled extensively, the most memorable being the trips with family, friends and his investment club. He was a member of the Elmwood and Whitefish golf clubs as golf was his favourite sport. Glen and Connie together enjoyed golfing, cycling, skiing, hiking and tennis. Since 1999 Glen and Connie have enjoyed all seasons in their Whitefish home with family and friends. He was always eager to host dinners, parties or a fireside visit in the backyard or at Lac Pelletier. Glen had a great sense of humour, enjoyed a good belly laugh – especially at his own jokes! Together Connie and Glen valued and treasured their age-old friendships yet continued to form new ones. Glen particularly enjoyed hockey as a player and then fan. This led to Glen and Connie opening their home to several hockey players who became part of the family and whose parents soon became part of their circle of friends. Very recently they visited family and close friends sharing memories and laughter. His grandchildren gave him such joy and brought out his playful side – always with a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face! An overwhelming number of family, friends and community members gathered in Swift Current to celebrate Glen’s life on Saturday, December 27th, 2014. The family would like to sincerely thank all those who participated in this service and reception, as well as to all of those who have reached out and shown their support. Donations to the Swift Current Bronco Education Fund or to the Cancer Research Society would be appreciated by the family.
