Obituary of Douglas Dickie

DICKIE – Douglas Gordon passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Palliser Regional Care Centre on March 20, 2015 at the age of 68 years. Born August 30, 1946 to Lloyd and Winnie Dickie in Leader, SK. He is survived by his mother Winnie; sister Dorothy (Jim) Miller of Tisdale; Jay (Luanne) & family of Prince Albert; Kim (Amanda) & family of Tisdale; sister Sheila (Rod) Oman, Jamie, Chelsey, Alysse all of Sooke, B.C.; two aunts and numerous cousins and many cherished friends. Doug was predeceased by father Lloyd Dickie and many other family members. He left home at an early age to pursue his trade in mechanics in Maple Creek where he developed a real passion for racing stock cars. After a few years he retired to Swift Current to work at Standard Motors and then later moved on to truck driving which he did till the day he retired. He drove for many companies like Treens Packers, Delta Rock, Frontier Trucking and Anne Mor out of Calgary which he spent his last several years traveling across Canada and the USA. After that he moved back to Swift Current to retire. His favorite pastimes were stock cars, ski-doo racing and many motorcycle trips. He loved using his CB radio (Dickie Bird was his handle) and listening to events on his scanners. Doug was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Eagles Club of Swift Current. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donation to be made to STARS Air Ambulance in memory of Doug.
