Obituary of Shirley Schlichting

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs Shirley Diane Schlichting (Jensen) (née Stevenson) died peacefully in Regina General Hospital on Friday August 21 at the age of 70. Shirley is survived by her husband Ernst of Swift Current; sons Rob Jensen and his wife Mary (Calgary AB) and Mike Jensen and his wife Paula (Kingston ON); step daughters Leslie Schick (Regina), Heather Schlichting (Medicine Hat), Christine Prang and her husband Kurt (Saskatoon); her sisters Irene Firth (Regina), Marge Tingley (Edmonton), Norma Wall (Regina), and Rita Sayre (Miles City MT). She is preceded in death by father Bob and mother Helen Stevenson, and sister Enid Neufeld. She will also be forever remembered by her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Shirley was born on February 17, 1945 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She married Don Jensen in 1966. Shirley and Don moved frequently around the province until Don’s passing in 1979. Shirley found herself raising 2 young boys into adulthood, and in many ways maybe a little longer. In 2001 Shirley met Ernst and the two became close, marrying in 2002. This union brought Shirley into Ernst’s welcoming family, whose relationships she cherished dearly. Shirley worked many years for various agencies of the provincial and federal government. Upon retirement Shirley spent 12 years volunteering her time with her condominium board as well as her church. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday September 3 at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church at 665 Central Avenue N in Swift Current, with a reception to follow. Rev Dr Greg Kiel will officiate the service. Arlie Neufeld will be the organist. Henry Thiessen will be the vocalist. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) Foundation, or the St Olaf’s Memorial Fund at 665 Central Avenue N, Swift Current. The family would like to thank the staff and crews of STARS Air Ambulance and the staff of the Cypress Regional Hospital and Regina General Hospital for their efforts and care, and especially Regina Hospital Chaplain Dennis Fingas for his many visits to Shirley during her final days.
