Obituary of David Klassen

KLASSEN – David passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the age of 87. He was born in Schoenfeld, Saskatchewan in 1928 and moved to Swift Current in his teens. His first job at age 15 was driving a delivery cart (horse and buggy) for a grocer. Over the years he also worked for different farmers in Alberta. When he was 24 he started working for the Co-op Creamery, which became Dairy Producers in later years, where he worked until he retired. He began by delivering milk products to various grocers in the Swift Current area and then started driving tanker trucks to pick up milk from the dairy farmers and deliver it to the milk plant in Swift Current and occasionally in Regina or Saskatoon. He married his wife, Nettie, in 1955, and built their first home himself in 1956. In 1968 he built their second home where they lived for over 40 years. Over the years, he spent much of his free time working on carpentry and woodworking projects for the house and for the family. In 2010 he suffered a stroke and thereafter resided at the Herbert Heritage Manor. In late 2014 he was moved to the nursing home in Herbert where he passed away. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Sarah (Loewen) Klassen; his brothers: John, Jacob, Henry, Peter, and Isaac; and his sisters: Sarah, Agnes, Mary, and Margaret. Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife, Nettie; his children: Shannon (Greg) Smith, Alan, Michael (Sandra), and Heather (Tom) Lademann; grandchildren: Erin (James) Gerrie, Amanda (Stefan) Rumpel, Christianna Lademann, Rebecca Lademann, Crystal Klassen and Corey Klassen; great-grandchildren Emmett Rumpel, and Ethan and Ava Gerrie; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private service was held for immediate family (children and grandchildren). Memorial donations can be made to Gideons International in Canada.
