RICHERT – George Edward – January 27, 1936 – April 6, 2016. It is with deep sadness that we said farewell to George Richert on April 6, 2016. He passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents Abram and Mathilda Richert, his parents-in-law Isaac and Nettie Janzen, his older brothers Ruben (Marion) and Elmer (Florence), brother-in-law Joe Neufeld and sister-in-law Jeanette Neufeld, and his brother-in-law Henry Gliege. He is survived by his high school sweetheart/wife Pearl, his two sons Colin (JoAnn) and Dean, (Rhonda, Joe and Karl) his beloved grandchildren Daniel, Sarah (Derek), Andrew (Virginia) and Joshua, by his great granddaughters Lena and Emily, by his older sister Selma Gliege and her family, his sister-in-law Roberta Richert and family, Elmer’s family, brother-in-law Homer (Gredi) and family, the Neufeld family, and the family of George and Susan Varughese. George was born in Waldheim, Saskatchewan. He was a strong advocate for peace, justice, generosity, and service and had a distinguished career as an educator. George held a B. Ed. with distinction and Master’s degree in Education both from the University of Saskatchewan. He held a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Alberta. He also gave a lot of his time volunteering for many organizations. He loved people and in return gained the respect of many. He was the happiest being around family. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing many sports and spent hours at the golf course with neighbors, friends, and his son Colin. The only golfer he competed against was himself. Throughout his life he travelled extensively. He enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds, religions, and cultures and made many friends around the globe. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle and will be missed by his family, friends, golfing buddies and all the people who met him. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Zion Mennonite Church in Swift Current on April 30th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Mennonite Central Committee Canada 134 Plaza Dr. Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
