OLFERT – Marie – The family sadly announces the passing of Marie Olfert who passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Marie was born to Jacob and Helen Martens on January 27, 1922 in the Hague, SK. Marie and Frank married June 14, 1942 in the village of Chortitz, SK. They moved to Swift Current on November 3, 1943 moving to the southside, 1st St. southside #110. They then moved to 3rd Ave. N.E. where they lived for many years. Marie’s first job was as a waitress at the Southside Diner. Several years later Marie went to work at the Swift Current Sun Office, where she worked for a number of years and then took a part-time job at the Pioneer Lodge Care Home. Frank worked at the CPR for many years until his retirement. Marie was a very gentle, spiritual lady who had a zest for life and was always the happiest when she had all her children, their spouses and her grandchildren around her even though it got pretty loud at times. She would never tell a lie or say anything bad about anyone. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flower beds and she, along with Frank had a large garden plot on the southside for many years. She was always baking or canning something as well as making jam, pickles, and many more preserves. They also enjoyed many years of camping and fishing at the Sask Landing Provincial Park. Marie lived on her own since the passing of her long time partner, Frank, who passed away on March 25, 1983. Marie is survived by her three children; a daughter Dianne (Murray) Trytten; Dianne’s daughter Leanne (Carl) Parsons and their children Madison, granddaughter Harlee; and Nathan; Dianne’s son Darren (Brenda); a daughter Joanne (Joe) Kirwan and their children; son Steven (Melissa) Kirwan and their children, Taylor and Brooklyn; daughter Shauna (Jacob) Reiger and their children; Justin, Hunter and Ayden; a son Dennis (Jean) Olfert and their children; son Michael (Carley) and their children Kadyn and Callyn; and daughter Michelle (Mark) May. Marie was also survived by her two sisters in B.C. Betty Anderson and Susan Munson. Marie was predeceased by her husband Frank Olfert; parents Jacob and Helen Martens; brothers Dave, Jacob, John, Henry, John and Peter; sisters Tena, Helen, Mary, Annie and a great grandson Hunter Reiger. Marie has left us with many happy memories. She was a strong and passionate lady and had many friends and acquaintances. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew her.
