LOPETER – Wayne passed away on July 9, 2016 at Cypress Regional Hospital at the age of 77 after succumbing to a six month battle with liver cancer. Wayne was born in Swift Current on November 13, 1938. He married Elaine Hendzel on May 27, 1968, and resided in Swift Current the entire time. Together they raised one daughter. Wayne was employed with the Dept. of Highways for 30 years until his retirement in 2004. Wayne is predeceased by his parents Dick and Elaine Lopeter, brother Richard Lopeter, sister-in-law Barb Lopeter, uncles Ken Mikkelson, Archie Mikkelson; mother-in-law Helen Hendzel and brother-in-law Ken Ferestad. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine of 48 years, daughter Jody Shatosky, grandson Cole Shatosky, son-in-law Brett Shatosky, brother Don (Donna) Lopeter, brother Reg (Marg) Lopeter, sister Valerie Kromrey, and sister-in-law Gladys Ferestad. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Wayne’s heart was filled with endless patience, devotion, kindness and generosity. He was always willing to lend a hand and then some to anyone in need. Wayne was a very gentle soul who blessed those that were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. Wayne could be a man of few words but his mere presence and sincerity was powerful. Although Wayne has sadly left us now, his loved ones will remember and cherish him with love and gratitude for a man that can never be replaced. It has, and always will be, an honor to have known him. So thank you, Wayne, for allowing us aboard your life’s journey. Wayne’s family and friends know he will be the one singing to the angels. There will be no service at the family’s request. Charitable donations can be made to the donor’s choice in memory of Wayne. A special thanks to the incredible and tireless efforts of the staff at Cypress Regional Hospital, Wayne was treated and cared for with the utmost respect and dignity he deserved in his time of need.
