Obituary of Sylvester Carter Hagan

HAGAN – Sylvester Carter passed away peacefully on May 1, 2016 at the age of 92 at the Swift Current Care Centre. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Helen, brother Rueben, children: Glen (Anne) Hagan, Terry (Mala) Hagan, Randy (Brenda) Hagan, Myrna (Gerald) Braaten; grandchildren: Robert, Keegan, Brett (Erin), Jennifer (Nathan), Trevor (Lisa), Laurel, Cindy (Serge) and numerous great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents George and Ethel Hagan, brothers Bert, Albert, sisters Isabelle, Tina and grandson Brian. Sylvester was born in Mazenod, Saskatchewan where he worked on various farms before moving to Swift Current to work construction for approximately 3 years. In 1951 he joined C.P. Transport & Express and remained a loyal employee for 34 years. In 1950 he met the love of his life Helen Tranter and they were married on October 4, 1950. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together. Sylvester enjoyed wood working, dancing, boating, bowling, darts, shuffleboard, playing cards and travelling. He built the home where he raised his family in Swift Current, and also spent many years enjoying the cottage at Lac Pelletier. Sylvester will be remembered as a kind, caring and humorous husband, father, grandfather and friend. A private family service will be held at Grace United Church with an internment at Mount Pleasant Burial Park. In memory of Sylvester Hagan and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation -Long Term Care Facility “The Meadows” in Swift Current.
