ORR – Mildred, It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mildred Fern Orr at the age of 96 on April 20, 2017 at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current SK. Mildred was born at Melavale SK to Ed and Ida Parchman on the July 16, 1920. Predeceased by her husbands Bob McConnell on Dec 25, 1943 and Jay Orr on December 5, 1982, her parents Ed and Ida Parchman, sisters Violet and husband Dennis Gibbens, Leila and husband Art Kaufman, Wilma and husband Howard Williamson, son Allan McConnell, Great Grandsons Kyle McConnell and Conor Orr. Survived by Daughter in law: Alita McConnell, Sons: Dale (Dianne) McConnell, Robert (Alice) McConnell, Lee (Gina) Orr, Lynn (Laura) Orr, daughter: Shelley Orr, 10 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 6 great -great granchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family moved to Admiral SK District in 1929 where she attended Andersonville School. She married Bob McConnell in 1939 and after his death in 1943 she moved to Cadillac SK where she worked various jobs to support her 3 children. Mildred married Jay Orr in 1952 and moved to Val Marie to the Orr family farm. In 1964 they moved to Coronation Alberta and a few years later in 1966 moved to Empress Alberta. Then finally to Swift Current in 1968 to semi retire. Over the years Mildred was a member of the UCW and participated in the Provincial Senior Games winning various medals in Shuffleboard and Whist. She enjoyed trips to the East Coast, Ottawa, Bangor Maine, Cuba, Alaska and Hawaii. Mildred loved to spend time with her family and attending family gatherings. Mildred enjoyed listening to her radio programs and TV Game shows; don’t forget Dr Oz. In 1997 she was declared legally blind. Although her blindness was a difficult cross to bear, she took it in stride and remained living independently in her own apartment up until her time of passing. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, the interment took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The pallbearers were Dewayne McConnell, Dwight McConnell, Gail McConnell, Glenis Janzen, Dallas Andrus, Kody Orr and Andrea Orr. A tribute was given by Alice McConnell.
