Obituary of Melbourne Cupples

CUPPLES – Melbourne Alexander passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. He was born February 23, 1932 to parents James & Florence (Anthony) Cupples at section21-3-7 W 3^rd RM #45

Mel grew up in the Summercove district and worked various jobs in the community. He made numerous trips to Hazenmore courting Elaine Sabo and they were married November 1954 and started their family.  They had a busy social life, square dancing, playing cards and curling were some of the things they enjoyed. Mel served on the Co-op board and the Credit Union board and was active in the National Farmers Union. They later moved to Swift Current in 1979 and enjoyed the casino, the legion, harness racing, bowling, cross country skiing and cards with family and friends. Mel also really enjoyed his 5 grandchildren and later his 5 great-grandchildren.

Mel is survived by his daughter Debbie (Leonard) McCrea, granddaughter Shyla (Sean) Lacroix, grandson Layne (Tiffany) McCrea, great grandchildren Chet & Daisy and grandson Dillan McCrea; his son Jay (Lynn) Cupples, grandson Deon (Amber Rowson), great granddaughter Kylie, granddaughter Justine (Lance) Protz, great grandchildren Emery & Renley. He is also survived by sister Arlene Cupples, sister-in-law Gwen Cupples and numerous nieces & nephews. Mel was predeceased by his wife of 68 years Elaine (Sabo); parents James & Florence Cupples; brothers David, (Nedra) and Wes Cupples; parents-in-law John & Minnie (Linstead) Sabo; brother & sister-in-laws Irene (Charlie) Angus, Mabel (Ron) Paton, Archie Simpson, Florence (Ron) Cowie, Ruby (Hugh) Munn, Marvin Sabo, Orville (Freida) Sabo, Louella (Sid) Emms and Joyce (Wilfred) Fehr.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home. Donations in his memory can be made to The MS Socitey or to the Saskatchewan Lung Association.
