Benora Sylvia Regier 1926 - 2024 passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. A Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Interment at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK.

Benora Sylvia Leona (Peters) Regier was born May 14, 1926 in Kelstern, Saskatchewan to Ben and Anna Peters.  In 1928 they moved to Wymark where she attended school from grades 1-12.  Upon graduation she attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK and received her teaching certification, a rarity in those times.  She went on to teach at Peel School in 1944 followed by Amphian School in 1945.  In 1946 she married Jacob Leonard Regier, saying their vows in the Wymark Church, the community that would become their "Church and Social Home," as Sylvia said.  They purchased the family farm in 1947, the "Old Adams Place", 7 miles NW of Wymark, in 1947 and spent the next several decades here, building & expanding their family and farm life.

Sylvia liked to spend time walking in the fields, taking in nature, and of course picking crocuses! She loved the sound of the spring run-off, teaching her grandchildren about the flowers and herbs they were picking during their many family walks, and making incredible apple juice/apple sauce from the resident apple tree in the orchard. Her picnic lunches in the field were infamous, and often full of watermelon and rollkuchen.

In 1978, after the tragic loss of their eldest son Murray, Sylvia returned to teaching, Wymark School, after a 26 year hiatus! She was a gifted teacher; her calm and nurturing demeanor still has students commenting today on the impact she had on them. She drove herself to school daily in harsh winter conditions, as a then, new and inexperienced driver. Her determination was unparalleled in all facets of life.

In 1986 Sylvia and Jake moved to Swift Current where they bought a house, that she herself searched for and chose with a Real Estate agent, and where they stayed until Jake's passing in 1995.  She then moved to Saskatoon where she lived at Elim Lodge on her own until 2023; 97 years of age!  In July 2023 she moved to JCL Care in a supported care environment.  She still went out for frequent walks with family and enjoyed taking in as much fresh air as she could.

Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Jacob Regier (1995), her brothers Bernard and Edgar and loving sons Douglas and Murray Regier.  Her legacy leaves behind her hlf sister Lavane (Jack) Benn, Daughters Pam and Paula, half brothers Lyle (Zin), and Brad (Pam) and daughter Natasha. Sylvia's son, Barry Regier (Lori) and his daughters, Kelly (Danny), Sasha & Alysa (John), as well as his step-children, Shayne (Mary-Anne), Andrea (Garnet), Jennifer (Matt), daughter Leonne, and her children, Pattrice (Darren), Lynette (John), Shannon, and daughter Bonnie, and her sons Shane (Kristee) and Derek (Nicole). Sylvia leaves behind her 12 great-grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; Bair, York, Jacob, Noah, Gracelyn, Maisie, Morgan, Viola, Zach, Josh, Hunter, Colten, Cheyenne, Kealy.

Sylvia was passionate about her family, had a steadfast & unwavering faith, and an incredible thirst for knowledge and learning that persisted until the day she died.  She was kind, patient and incredibly determined.  Deemed legally blind, she persisted to go for daily walks, got the best equipment to allow her to magnify literature so she could continue to read until her sight completely failed, and was meticulous with diet and nutrition. She taught English as a second language to many adult learners into her early 90's.  Her zest for life, for continued growth, her agility to evolve her beliefs with time, and her unwavering acceptance for all leaves behind an incredulous legacy.

Benora Sylvia Regier, you will be missed.
