Obituary of Elaine Fortin

FORTIN – Elaine was born on December 12, 1938 to Michael Simon Kunz & Christine Ann (Loeffler) Kunz at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt, SK. She grew up at the family farm with her parents and attended Harvest School.  She moved to Moose Jaw, SK where she met her husband Raymon Fortin and they farmed in the Michelton area until 1982. They enjoyed traveling and fishing in their retirement. Over the years she enjoyed spending time camping with her brother and sister and their families. Elaine enjoyed hobbies such and woodcarving, sewing, needlework, painting and drawing.

Elaine and Gary were good neighbours and Elaine started spending time caring for Gary’s mother while he worked and farmed and they became very close friends. Elaine started helping Gary out at his farm driving grain truck and many other farm related jobs which they both loved to do. Gary and Elaine loved to fish, watch and feed beautiful birds and squirrels, Elaine enjoyed identifying them from her bird book. Elaine had a green thumb taking care of her beautiful flowers and their gardens. When she picked raspberries, 3 went in her mouth and one in the pail. They both worked together to preserve the bounty from their gardens. Elaine & Gary also made beautiful bird houses and carvings together, which many people admired and bought.

Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her special friend and caregiver Gary Hinther, her sister Eleanor Crone and her 6 children; Joanne (Don) Willenborg, Sherry (Bruce) Huls, Brian Crone, Chris (Michelle) Crone, Gordon (Misty) Crone, Michael (Robyn) Crone and her brother Francis (Rita) Kunz and their children, Annalea (Mark) Sookeroff, Jamie (James) Dyck and 20 great nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Michael & Christine (Loeffler) Kunz, 1 sister and 2 brothers in infancy , her husband Raymon Fortin and her brother-in-law Joseph Crone.
