CONNICK – Elizabeth Janet passed peacefully from the cares of this world Monday, January 15, 2018, at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current SK. At the age of 92 years, Elizabeth (Betty) had experienced the full spectrum of joys and sorrows, delights and hardships, abundance and scarcity, laughter and tears of a long life well-lived. Over the course of her life she was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, and most of all a loving wife to Bryce during their 56 years of marriage. Elizabeth was born July 19, 1925, on the family farm, SE 36-11-19 w3rd, in the Twin Buttes district “Up on the Bench” south of Gull Lake SK. She was the fifth child and first daughter for Earl and Maud (Rudolph) Bercot. A younger sister and brother completed the Bercot family of seven children. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Marjorie Salaway of Langley BC, Lynne (Tom) Dutton of High River AB, and Dale (Debbie) Connick of Gull Lake SK; her brother, Dean Bercot of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Lisa (Rick Sadler) Salaway, Kevin Salaway; Paul (Jen Kelly) Dutton, David (Shellie) Dutton, Mark (Brianna) Dutton, Colin (Lisa) Dutton; Alicin (Andy Good) Connick, Lindsay (John Hsu) Connick, Abbie (Philippe Couillard) Connick, Karyn (Regan) Crone; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elizabeth was always delighted to spend time with and hear about her 22 great grandchildren: Austin Salaway, Addison Sadler; Thomas, Joseph, and Elizabeth Dutton, Matthew and Damon Dutton, Charlie and Sam Dutton, Jesse and John Dutton; Bria, Alex, and Dale Good, Douglas and Elliott Hsu, Emily, Charlie, and Sam Couillard, Claire, Bryce, and Maelle Crone. She loved sharing their music, stories, sports, and life events. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Bryce (2001), parents Virginia Maudine and Earl Francis Bercot, brothers Donald, John, Bruce, and Paul Bercot, sister Ruth Stephenson, and son-in-law Ed Salaway. Also predeceased by sisters-in-law Dannie, Marj, Ruth, and Doris Bercot, brother-in-law Doug Stephenson, nieces Debra Bercot, Doris Lundgren, and nephew Larry Bercot and her mother and father in-law Eva and Albert Connick, brother-in-law Jim Connick, sisters-in-law Pearl Dorothy Birrell, Marjorie Moat Marcoux and Norma Johnson. Elizabeth attended Twin Buttes School and Gull Lake High School. In 1942 she went to Normal School in Moose Jaw SK, later teaching at Mackstone south of Assiniboia, and Clairbank School SE of Gull Lake. She married Bryce Connick at the farm home of Earl and Maud Bercot February 6, 1945. They lived on and farmed the land across the road from Betty’s childhood home, which at that time was owned by Stuart and Clara Horne. Elizabeth’s involvement and interest in farming operations continued until her passing. She always wanted to know which field Dale was working on and how it was going. Elizabeth supported her community in many ways through activities with members of the Golden Sheaf Women’s Institute. At the time of her passing she had mourned many lifelong friends and yet adapted to changing circumstances. She cherished the friendship of the King Gin family and appreciated being included in their family times. She leaves us with wonderful memories. Elizabeth became a resident of Autumn House in Gull Lake in September, 2013, and lived there until her passing, enjoying the residents and always appreciating the help and caring of staff. Elizabeth’s family will honor Mom, Betty, Grandma Betty, with a Celebration of Life Memorial at 2:00 PM on February 24, 2018, at Knox United Church, Gull Lake SK, Reverend Ken Schragg officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
