Obituary of Willie Jack Wiebe
We are saddened to announce that Willie passed away on December 13, 2023 at the Leader and District Integrated Health Facility. He was 67 years of age. Willie was born in Swift Current on April 30, 1956 to Peter and Aganetha (Fehr) Wiebe, the 11th of 12 children.
Willie is survived by his siblings: Agnes (Abe) Thiessen, Sam (Hank) Dyck, Abe (Teresa), Henry (Nancy), Tina (Gale) Dickie, Mary (Doug) Judiesch and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Aganetha and by his siblings: Helen (Leo) Lambert, Cornie (Eva), Betty Spooner, Pete (Ruby), Anne (Bill) George as well as some nieces and nephews.
When the Kinsmen School opened for the handicapped in Swift Current, Willie was one of the first students, riding the bus from Wymark.
Once Willie completed his education, he worked at SaskAbilities (Swift Current Branch) for 44 1/2 years, retiring in August 2019. During his employment he performed many tasks. His favorites included paper shredding, making and painting highway stakes, building picnic tables and other woodworking jobs.
Willie’s interests included going to SC Bronco games, fishing, listening to country music, bowling, socializing and he always looked forward to Camp Easter Seals. He also participated in many Ability Bowls raising money for SaskAbilities. Willie was an avid walker and would walk many miles in any given day. Another pastime included playing cards and was a master at Uno and Go Fish.
For Willie it was a good day when he had coffee or pop in his hand and money in his wallet. He also loved being surrounded by family and was in his element at family gatherings; always teasing and just taking everything in.
In 2019 Willie moved into Southwest Homes group home, an environment that enabled him to thrive and enjoy the latter years of his life. Recently his health required him to move into long-term care in Leader. We would like to thank the staff at Southwest Homes and the Leader care home for taking such great care of him, appreciating him the way you did.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SPCA, SaskAbilities or Southwest Homes.
A private service will be held to honour Willie's memory and interment will take place at Schoenfeld Cemetery.
