STRAUB – Marie Sophie (Steinhauer) age 96 years, of the Hodgeville area, passed away January 1, 2008. She was a resident of the Herbert Nursing Home for the past 4 ½ years. Mary is survived by her sisters: Julie and Milly; sisters-in-law Elsie Bader, Ruth Straub, Elsie Straub; daughter Louise (Lloyd) Busch; daughter-in-law Lois (Cady) Straub; sons Arthur (Jean) Straub, Larry (Linda) Straub; seven grandchildren: Wendy, Wade, Brad, David, Judy, Glenn, Lyle; thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jake and Sophie Steinhauer, her husband Henry, a son Donald, sisters Betty and Rose, and brother Ted. Mary was born to Jake and Sophie Steinhauer on July 6, 1911, on the family homestead. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Zion Lutheran Church, Flowing Well, Saskatchewan. She married Henry Straub in October 1930 and they moved to the Straub homestead northwest of Hodgeville. They lived on the farm until 1996 when they moved to Swift Current. Mary will be remembered for her “open-house” to all, her devotion to her husband, family, and her church, her ability to face and accept life’s hardships and joys. We will love and remember her always. The family extends thanks to the nurses and care staff, and Dr. Kassett at the Herbert Nursing home for their faithful care and loving concern for Mary. Thank-you, you are God’s Angels. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Reverend Terry Simonson officiating. The organist was Arlene Olsen. The ushers were Don Sauder and Roy Deobald. The pallbearers were grandson’s Wade Straub, Brad Straub, David Straub, Glenn Straub, Lyle Straub, and Ernie Wilson. The interment was held at Memory Garden’s Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief or the charity of your choice.
