Marcene Beverly Kirkpatrick, age 81, passed away peacefully April 21, 2024 at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Marcene was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on December 11, 1942 to Borghild and Orval Purdy.  She took her schooling in Cabri prior to entering the work force.  In 1963 she married Cyril Kirkpatrick, who preceded her in death in October, 1975.  Cyril and Marcene resided on the farm until moving to town to their new home in 1967. Cabri Hospital welcomed the cries of their four children.

Marcene is survived by her adult children, Judy Krause, Brenda Kirkpatrick, Karen (Keith) Stennick and daughter-in-law, Nicole Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Tyson (Sarah) Krause, Brooklyn (Kyle) Palmer, Meaghan (Michael) Boast, Haley (Tony) Neufeld, Mackenzie (Denzel) Kirkpatrick-Sluth, Travis Kirkpatrick, Sarah (Zachary) Kirkpatrick, Kylie Stennick, Karly Stennick; plus 4 great-grandchildren, Lennyn Krause, Hudson and Griffin Palmer, and Sabrina Boast. Also mourning Marcene’s death are her siblings, Lorne (Judy) Purdy, Wayne (Elaine) Purdy, Bonnie (Melvin) Gattinger, Ken Purdy, Jim (Darlene) Purdy, sister-in-law Phyllis Purdy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marcene was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her son, David Kirkpatrick, infant sister Jean Purdy, brother, Harvey Purdy, mother and father-in-law Lillian and William C. Kirkpatrick, sister-in-law Frances Cherkowski, brother-in-law, David Kirkpatrick, nephew, Blair Purdy and son-in-law, Allen Krause.

Marcene was hard-working. Her hands were rarely idle in her many chosen career paths. In school, she participated in oratory and later took Dale Carnegie courses to further develop her public speaking and human resources. Marcene enjoyed reading, especially cook books.  She was a good cook and enjoyed entertaining and sharing a meal in her home with others.  Marcene was famous for her cabbage rolls and matrimonial cake.  Marcene was a self-taught hair dresser, cutting hair, giving perms and sets to family and friends.  When her children were young, she spent many late nights at her sewing machine mending, hemming and sewing skating dresses and costumes.  Curling and bonspiels were occasionally enjoyed by Marcene in the winter months.  Marcene enjoyed music and a highlight was her trip to Las Vegas to see Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Wayne Newton.  Travel was not a priority for Marcene, but the trips to Canada’s west and east coasts, an Alaskan cruise and Disneyland were memorable.

Marcene served for a number of years as a local representative on the school board in Cabri for the Leader School Division.  In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering in the gift shop at the Cypress Regional Hospital.

The family would like to thank the many health care providers that have assisted and cared for Marcene in her health journey.

At Marcene’s request, a private funeral will be held April 30, 2024, with Chaplain Bob Cappelle officiating.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The interment will take place at a later date.
