Susan Schellenberg

March 29, 1940 – August 22, 2026

Susan Schellenberg of Regina, Saskatchewan, peacefully went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Sue was a much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a family who will remember her with great love, gratitude, and many treasured memories.

Sue was born in Winkler, Manitoba, on March 29, 1940. She was predeceased by her husband Larry Schellenberg, her parents: Helena and Abram Toews, Siblings: Mary, Willie, Agatha, Abram, Lena, Gertrude, Jacob, Julius, David, Tina, Dedrick, and Annie.

On December 20, 1958, Sue married Larry Schellenberg. Their marriage grew into a beautiful partnership, and they shared 63 years of life together. Larry spent his career as an air traffic controller, while Sue was his devoted wife and companion. Four years ago, on August 22, 2022, Sue tenderly held Larry’s hand as he peacefully went into the arms of Jesus. She carried their love with her throughout the remainder of her life.

Sue will be deeply missed by her children Michael (Vivian) Schellenberg, Wayne (Lorrie) Schellenberg and Jerry Schellenberg. Her grandchildren Jesse (Katie) Schellenberg, Melissa (Dustin) Sykes, Dolton (Amanda) Johnson, Kirsty (Brandon) Klemenz, Rachel (Mark) Wiebe, Adam (Sidney) Schellenberg, her Great Grandchildren Zoey, Myla, Laikyn, Austin, Hazel, Ellis, Piper, Paisley, Peyton, Jaden, Beckett, Cailem, Eleanor, and Westley as well as her siblings: Nettie, Peter, and Agatha, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Her faith in Jesus was at the centre of Sue’s life. She loved the Lord deeply and sought to live with faith, grace, kindness, and a willingness to serve others. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about—it was woven into the way she cared for her family and the people around her. Grace Mennonite Church held a special place in her heart, and she treasured the hymns, worship, fellowship, and friendships that connected her to her church family.

Family was at the heart of Sue’s life, but she also enjoyed discovering and developing her own interests. She worked in retail, enjoyed painting and creating artwork, and had a natural gift for decorating and making occasions special. She was an enthusiastic cook and baker, particularly enjoying Mennonite cooking, perogies, fruit pies, and the cookies her family loved.

Sue and Larry enjoyed travelling together and collected many happy memories along the way. Their adventures took them to Mexico and other destinations, while some of their most treasured early memories were made camping with their boys.

Being a grandmother brought Sue a special kind of joy. Time with her grandchildren meant sleepovers, crafts, playground adventures, baking and cooking together, building forts in the trees, reading, dancing to fun organ music, and simply enjoying one another. She had a gift for making each grandchild feel that they were important and deeply loved.

Sue also had a love of fashion and enjoyed being the glamorous woman she was. Music was another constant in her life. She loved hymns, played the organ well into her final months, and, with her beautiful alto voice, enjoyed singing along when church groups came to visit. Even near the end of her life, music remained a source of joy and connection for her.

Sue leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, love, creativity, and devotion. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now peacefully in the presence of the Jesus she loved and faithfully followed throughout her life. They also take comfort in believing that they’re strolling in Heaven together now.

She will be deeply missed. Her laughter, her faith, her music, her warmth, and the many little ways she loved her family will remain part of the lives of those who knew her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the CRH nursing team, Dr. Pederson, Dr. Lim, and Dr. Flora for the exemplary care provided during Sue’s final week. The family also sincerely appreciates the care and compassion shown to Sue by Willow Creek Manor
