Mary Audrey Joan Schmidt February 14, 1938 - August 18, 2026 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Schmidt in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on August 18, 2026 at the age of 88. Our dear mother, Mary Audrey Joan Schmidt (née Wingerter), was born at Masefield, Saskatchewan on February 14, 1938. She grew up on the family farm as the youngest of her five siblings, until she met and married her husband, Leonard, in 1957. Together, Mary and Leonard raised four children in Swift Current and were married for 55 years. Mary worked in retail for many years. She enjoyed camping with her loved ones and was a member of the local Good Sam Club. Mary was crafty and creative, skilled at knitting, crocheting, and handiwork. She loved reading and doing puzzles. An active curling spectator and Toronto Blue Jay fan, Mary followed her favorite players and teams, sipping on London Fogs and there was always a well-stocked candy dish. She loved feeding her family with her cooking and baking, and made the best raisin cookies. Mary regularly attended mass as her faith was important to her. After retirement, Mary volunteered at the MCC store. She moved into the Bentley several years ago, enjoying her time there participating in daily activities (especially music performances, exercises, and bingo), and making many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, daughter-in-law (Rosemary) and great-granddaughter (Isabella). She is also pre-deceased by parents: Valentine and Anne Wingerter, three brothers: Mike (Josephine), Joe (Rosemary), and Leo (Delores), one sister: Celine Preboy (Albert), and brother-in-law (Carl Klein). As well as Leonard’s siblings Nick Schmidt (Jean), Rose Gauthier (Roland), Lena Schmidt and brother-in-law Gordon Watson. Survived and greatly missed by her four children: Val (Burton Holcomb), Darcy, Gale (Lori), and Keith (Donna). Her eight grandchildren: Jeremy (Tara), Christopher (Lauren), Megan (Grant), James (Shayla), Amy, Kyle (Taylor), Tawnya (Bobby), and Madison (Quinn). Thirteen great-grandchildren: London, Ruby, Ellie, Owen, Poppy, Everett, Stellan, Kinsley, Navy, Sloan, Fraser, Harris, and Louisa. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Klien, sister-in-laws Agnes Watson and Alice McConnell (Robert) and brother-in-law Tony Schmidt along with numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday August 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, officiated by Father Herve Yepie Abou.
