Jacob Ginter Obituary

GINTER - Jacob passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the Meadows Longterm Care Facility with his family by his side. A Family Service will be held at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.

Jacob was born at home on August 30, 1941 in Chortiz, SK. to Abraham & Anna Ginter, the 11th child of 12. Jake had various jobs, including oilfield, working at Burnette’s Farm and working in construction prior to working at the City for 31yrs as Forman of the Waterworks Dept.

While he was employed at the city his holidays were spent – 3 weeks in spring & 3 weeks in the fall helping Myron on the farm. They really enjoyed their time together a lot and many jokes were played on each other as they were both pranksters. After Jake retired he went to work for 13 years at Peavy Mart, until he had his 6 bypass.

Jacob met Annie (Dyck) in early November of 1963. They were married on July 18, 1965 at Wymark Church. This union blessed them with 3 children. Jake had a passion for pigeons, he had them in the barn in Wymark, in the rafters of the garage in Swift Current and even raised an abandoned chick as his pet.

Jake enjoyed puzzling in the winter and gardening in the summer, as was evident by the flowers in his yard. Jake loved playing with all his grandchildren and then his great-grandchildren. He sat on the floor playing with each one until he moved to Clover House. It just got too difficult to stand back up, but her would gladly have them on his lap and get as many hugs as he could. He loved spending time watching intense action movies, UFC or wrestling with his son Wes, mind you, most of the time he watched with his eyes closed and snoring! Non the less, Wes very much enjoyed this time together with his dad. If dad could fit a wiener roast on any visit in the summer, he would be extremely happy. He loved to get the fire just right to roast the perfect hot dog.

Jake was predeceased by his loving wife Annie of 58 years in 2024. He is survived by: daughter Patricia (Timothy) Orthner, their children – Victoria (Zachary) Peters, Olivia (Matthew) Gerbrandt their children Caleb & Owen; Michael Orthner; daughter Debra (Myron predeceased 2019) Hildebrandt – their children, Brody (Heidi) Hildebrandt (Olivia & Amelia), Connor (Jocelyn) Hildebrandt (Roy, Annielyn) and Anissa Hildebrandt; son Wesley (Laura) Ginter; in-laws Hilda Ginter, Helen Dick, Margaret Schlamp, Peter (Elaine) Dyck, David (Carol) Dyck, Jacob (Lucy) Dyck and Susan Dyck.
