Vernon Letkeman Obituary

LETKEMAN – VERNON: It is with great sadness, after a very short illness, that we announce the passing of Vern Letkeman at the age of 84 years on April 14, 2026. He was born November 7, 1941, to his parents, Ben and Helen Letkeman.

Dad was born in Swift Current, SK and grew up on the farm in Wymark, SK. He went to Amphion school, a one room schoolhouse right across the road from the farm. He helped on the family farm until moving into Swift.

He was a firefighter with the Swift Current Fire Department and worked in the oil patch. During his retirement Dad was a taxi driver, which he found very interesting. Dad would often tell stories about the trips that he went on and some of the passengers that he picked up. Dad loved woodworking and building things with his hands. There was always something on the go in the

woodshop and I’m pretty sure everyone in the family has at least one or two projects that he built. His other hobbies included fishing, camping, and working with the Kiwanis, he especially

enjoyed selling apples. Dad had a keen interest in sports. He was an avid buckaroo member back in the 80’s and had season tickets for the Bronco hockey games for over 40 years! Dad loved hockey! There is even a trophy that Dad would award to a player that showed the most

dedication and sportsmanship.

Dad’s greatest joy was following his kids and grandkids in all their activities. From hockey and soccer, to choir, dance, football, and band Grandpa could be found in the crowd cheering on his favorite performer or player. He enjoyed it all! Dad loved to travel and Hawaii was one of his favourites, he loved everything about it. He loved it so much that he went twice! If you ever came to visit and ran errands with him, you knew that he loved to chat…with everyone! He genuinely loved to visit and as a kid it always seemed to take forever.

Dad, you leave an empty spot in our lives. We are thankful you didn’t suffer any pain and were taken so peaceful, yet so suddenly. Each one of us will carry our own special memory of you forever. He is survived by his loving partner Sharyn Erne, sister Angela (Al) Poile, brother-in-law Thayer Jackson, daughters Tammy (Greg) Knowles, Terri (Chad) Murrell and son Todd (Kim) Letkeman, and his extended family Trent (Shari) Erne, Blaine Erne, Shelby (Evan) Budd. Grandchildren, Wyatt (Stephanie) Letkeman, Kelci (Sebastian) Casas, Triston Murrell & Madison Murrell, Tina Knowles, Tim (Beth) Knowles, Tanner Erne, Taylor Erne (Colton Kent), Andrew Sauer (Shianna Newman), Mandi (Joey) Brown, Josh Budd (Olivia Rousseaux), Teagan Budd (Adrian Soroka), great grandchildren, James & William Letkeman, Sarah & Simon Knowles, Ozzie & Knox Brown. Bridgette & Coedrey Kent and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Letkeman, parents, Ben & Helen Letkeman, brother Larry and sister-in-law Erna Letkeman, and sister, Nelda Jackson.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the ICU at the Swift Current Union Hospital. You made it possible for him to go outside on the warmest, sunniest day of April and brought him his favourite sundae on the first day of the Dairy King opening. Every morning you put a smile on his face. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Lund and Dakota, RN, for everything you did on his last day. We sincerely appreciate and thank each and every one of you for everything you did.

Donations in memory of Vern can be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Health Foundation
