Shopa, Ernest (Ernie) William passed away on Friday March 13, 2026, at his home in Swift Current Sk. Ernie was born on March 26, 1945, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the seventh of John and Elsie Shopa’s twelve children

He is survived by: his beloved Wife of 58 years Norma, and their sons Clark (Lana), Kent (Mary-Lynn), 9 grandchildren Amanda, Darris, Kaitlyn, Nicole, Taylor, Rayden, Trayton, Austin and Autumn and 9 great grandchildren; sisters – Anna (Dick) Helen (Bruce), Terry, Mary, Pat, Fran (Ralph) and Brother Steve (Bev). Predeceased by: his father John, mother Elsie; brothers John and Frank; sisters Jeannie and Nancy.

Ernie was raised on the family farm just east of Moose Jaw with his eleven brothers and sisters where they had numerous adventures. He always loved getting together with his siblings and reminiscing about old times.

Ernie met Norma in Swift Current on July 31, 1967, when he asked her to go to the Dairy Queen for ice cream and from that day forward, they were inseparable. Their love grew quickly, and on May 4, 1968, they were joined in marriage. Ernie was a meat cutter by trade for over forty years, until he fully retired in 2015. His greatest passion in life was working on anything with an engine. Over the years he owned many vehicles and hot rods, but none meant more to him than his 1973 Plymouth Duster 340. Ernie’s happy place was wherever an engine hummed—whether he was tinkering in the yard, lending a hand to family and friends, or simply admiring the craftsmanship of a wellbuilt car. He found joy in car shows, the thrill of stock car races, and the excitement of watching NASCAR. Being around the things he loved—and sharing that love with others—was truly where his heart lived.
