It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Audrey Lynne Yee in Swift Current, SK, on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Audrey leaves behind her devoted husband, Dick Yee; her beloved children, daughter Heather Heapy (Ernest) and son Derek Yee (Ashley), both of Saskatoon, SK; and her cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, James, and Nico. She is also survived by her dear sister, Eleanor Grona of Red Cliff, AB, and niece, Bev Rhodes (Trevor) of Dunmore, AB.
She was predeceased by her parents, Chris and Olive Olesen of Swift Current, SK; her brother, Jim Olesen of Vancouver Island, BC; her sisters, Elaine Anderson of Lumsden, SK, and Joan Olesen, who passed away in infancy; and her nephew, Ashley Olesen of Lumsden, SK.
Her commitment to family naturally extended into her dedication to the community and her career. Audrey was born in 1948 near Beaver Flats, SK, and moved with her family to Swift Current in 1952, where she planted deep roots and lived the remainder of her life. In 1967, she married her true love, Dick, and together they built a home filled with stories, laughter, and happiness.
Audrey’s passion for service shone brightly in her community involvement. She volunteered with numerous organizations, including the Kinettes, Saskatchewan Teachers Federation, and Innovation Credit Union. She was deeply honored to serve as chair of both the Swift Current 75th committee and the Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 committee. Audrey’s outgoing nature helped her foster many cherished, lifelong friendships, and her generosity of spirit made everyone feel welcome.
Above all, Audrey was renowned as a teacher. Former students fondly recall how Audrey’s classroom was always filled with encouragement and creativity, inspiring many to pursue their own passions. She educated generations throughout Swift Current and nearby communities, and later worked with several Hutterite Communities, where she established lasting bonds. Audrey continued to connect with many of her students well into their adult years—she truly loved being a teacher, and her family was proud to often hear, “Your mom was my favourite teacher!”
A celebration of Audrey’s life will take place at the Swift Current Legion, 239 1st Ave NE, on February 20, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Please come prepared to share your stories about Audrey!
