Larry Lloyd Martens passed peacefully in the early hours of Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 72 years and 7 months. Larry was born in Swift Current, SK on June 26, 1953, to Cornelius (Cornie) and Maria (Mary) Martens.  He was a little brother to Garry and in later years he would become an older brother to his sisters, Shelley and Gina. Larry was predeceased by his mother Mary (1970), his father Cornie (2006) and his brother Garry (2014). 

Larry was a dreamer and school was tolerated, not embraced.  One summer as teenagers, he and his cousin headed out on a road trip to California in an old station wagon. Curtains were hung and this car became home for the next few weeks. He got his first job as pump jockey at Bill & Harv’s Service Station where he worked for several years.  He continued to dream and throughout his lifetime, he tried his hand at various employment opportunities. Over the years – he ran a coffee wagon for some time, visiting different places of work and selling coffee and treats to employees on their coffee breaks. As an adult, he applied himself and was able to obtain his pilot’s license. This never turned into a lasting career, but it proved to be a notch on the belt of life that he could be very proud of. Then once again, he proved that he could be a success if he applied himself, and he obtained his Saskatchewan Realtor’s license.  He worked as an agent at Century 21 Realty for several years and enjoyed this career path. He ended his working career driving taxicab.

In 2022, Larry had the misfortune of breaking his hip.  After surgery and rehab, he was never able to live on his own and he entered long term care, first in Herbert and then at the Meadows in Swift Current.

Larry is survived by two sisters: Shelley (Terry) Seibel (Swift Current), and Gina (Bruce) Hinrichsen, two nephews Ayrton (Calgary) and Berkley (Johnstown, CO), and sister-in-law Gladys Martens (Swift Current), as well as many cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.
