Jeanette Lillian Laybourne (MacKinnon) passed away peacefully at the Foyer St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ponteix, SK. On December 1, 2025, at the age of 88. Jeanette was born in Brae, Prince Edward Island to James and Lorena (Strang) MacKinnon. She was the oldest of six children. Jeanette grew up on the family farm at Brae, PEI and attended Brae School. Jeanette left school early to help at home, and she started working as a housekeeper for local families.
In 1960, Jeanette met Harold Laybourne who was in PEI visiting family. Harold and Jeanette had a short courtship and were married at Brae United Church on July 30, 1960. Shortly after the wedding, they moved to the family farm in Ponteix, Saskatchewan in the middle of a drought Jeanette and Harold had three sons James, Lee & Barry. Jeanette was a homemaker and farmed alongside her husband. They remained on the farm until 1981 when they moved to Swift Current. Jeanette cleaned rooms at hotels before starting her career with homecare, where she worked until her retirement. Mom liked to read, watch movies, and visit with family while enjoying a good meal. Mom loved spending time in her yard tending to her lawn, vegetable garden, and especially looking after her gorgeous flowers. Many family gatherings were hosted in her beautiful backyard.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents James & Lorena MacKinnon; father & mother-in-law Lorenzo & Alice Laybourne; son James; granddaughter Jamie; husband Harold; sister & brother-in-law Lorna & Malcolm Ellis; brother Hillard MacKinnon; brothers in-law-Fred Rennie, and Ivan Leard; sisters & brothers-in-law Marie & Eric Carlson, Doris & Roger Laybourne.
Jeanette is lovingly remembered by her son Lee (Sarah) & their children Christopher; Tyler (Cheyanne) their children Jeremiah, Toby, Ben & Rylen; Tanner; Kendra (Jordan); by her son Barry (Roxanne) & their child Daniel; daughter-in-law Barb Laybourne & their son Jade (Leah) their children Rosalie & Baylee; her sisters Eva Rennie & Marjorie Leard; brother & sister-in-law Willard & Judy MacKinnon; sister-in-law Rowena MacKinnon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff at the Foyer St. Joseph for their excellent care of our Mom.
A memorial service will be held on Monday December 29, 2025 at 11:00am from First United Church with Lynda Stumpf officiating. 223 3rd Ave. N.E. Swift Current, SK.
