Raymond Louis Carignan Obituary

CARIGNAN - RAYMOND LOUIS - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Raymond Carignan on Saturday, September 6, 2025. A celebration of life for Raymond will be announced at a later date.

While our hearts are heavy with loss, we also recognize that we are here today because of the incredible life Ray lived – a life filled with love, hard work, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his family, his friends, and his belief in Our Lord.

Our beloved father, Raymond Louis Joseph Carignan, returned to Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in his home on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Jeanne Carignan.

Ray was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan on April 3, 1939 to J. Edouard Carignan and Maria-Anna Lallier. He was the fifth youngest child of a ‘small’ family of 16 brothers and sisters.

Ray amassed a lifetime of stories which he loved to speak about with anyone who would listen. For example, he always talked about how the teachers would reprimand him for his low grades and his lateness to classes, with them not acknowledging his chores for the farm came first, like milking the cows and mucking the barn. This causing him to come to school with the “Eau de barn” fragrance. Another one was about the word ‘hate’. Ray never liked this word as he felt it too strong a word and emotion and could wear down your soul.  He would say, ‘You should never hate someone or something. You should only dislike it’.

Ray and Jeanne first met through his sister Helene, who was also Jeanne’s best friend. For over 63 years, their bond over their mutual appreciation for family, dancing, bowling, fishing, watching any and all sports, and scratching lotto tickets, continued throughout their long and happy marriage.

Ray leaves behind his children, Michelle (Mal) Irwin, Roger (Carolee) Carignan, and Jackie (Pete) Fehr, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, October 24 at 2:00 pm at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Swift Current SPCA or an organization of your choice in memory of Ray Carignan.
