CARRUTHERS - JAY passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Meadows Care Facility in Swift Current, SK. At his request a Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date.

Jay Garnett Carruthers was always smiling. He was a hardworking man with a heart of gold, and everybody loved him for it. Always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, he never expected much in return, often helping for nothing at all simply because he cared.

He is survived by his spouse, Dianne, his mother, Yvonne Wiebe, his sisters, Kerri Lou and Mickey, along with their families, and his stepfather, Orest, together with his wife, Lucille. He was predeceased by his biological father, Lyle Carruthers. Jay remained in regular contact with his family throughout his life and cherished those bonds.

As a young person, Jay was adventurous, a bit of a nomad, and comfortable with whoever he was around and wherever he went. Growing up in Calgary, he earned the nickname Smiley because he always had a grin to share.

Many will remember Jay for his fun-loving spirit. He was a joy to be around and always made people feel welcome.

Jay met Dianne when they were teenagers, and the two remained friends throughout their lives. They reconnected in 2008 and began dating, continuing their journey together from that point on.

Jay spent most of his life doing landscaping work and took great pride in his craft. He was exceptionally skilled in his trade, and his customers admired him for the quality and beauty of his work. He deeply appreciated and valued people who respected what he did, because it was more than a job to him. It was something he poured himself into.

In the end, Jay left this world the same way he lived in it, with a smile on his face.
