Lyle Franklin Thoreson Obituary

Lyle Thoreson, a lifelong farmer and adventurer with a deep love for the land and those around him, passed away on August 7, 2025, just shy of his 81st birthday. He was born on August 27, 1944, in Cabri, Saskatchewan, to Charles and Marguerite Thoreson.

Lyle's roots were firmly planted in the prairie soil where he was born and raised. For many years, he was a dedicated grain farmer, a profession he approached with passion. Even after renting out his land, he could often be found lending a hand to a neighbor, always happiest when he was in a tractor cab, whether it was a small garden tractor or a massive piece of farm equipment. His deep connection to the land led him to build and operate a custom feedlot in the 90s, where he managed 3,000 head of cattle for a decade.

Retirement was merely a suggestion for Lyle. He and his beloved wife, Debbie, embarked on a new career managing regional parks, with their final stop at Struthers Lake. They created countless friendships there, and when the park closed for the season, Lyle would go back to his roots, helping a local farmer with harvest.

Family was paramount to Lyle. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Debbie; his daughters, Sharleen (Garth) and Lanette (Stacey); and his granddaughter, Cassidy Todd. His adventurous spirit was infectious. When his daughters were young, he would load the family into the car on a whim and take off on an adventure with an unknown destination. This love for the open road continued after he sold his feedlot, as he and Debbie would drive off with no plans, eventually discovering their favorite wintering spot in Needles, California, where they made a community of friends over ten years.

Lyle was a proud and long-standing member of the Eagles Club in Swift Current, a place where he loved to share stories and a place he would seek out when traveling.

Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marguerite Thoreson; his brother, Kenny Thoreson; and his in-laws, Vic and Mary Cornelson. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his enduring sense of adventure, and his unwavering love for his family and friends.

At his request a Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Lyle can be made to the Cabri Hospital Auxiliary, Cabri, SK.
