Minnie Rempel Obituary

Minnie Catherine Rempel was born at Swift Current Union Hospital April 1st, 1951 to John and Helena (Funk) Rempel. Story has it that the roads were blocked, and the air-ambulance picked mom up at the Rhineland turn.

Shortly after Minnie's birth the family moved from the farm to the village of Rhineland so that Minnie's older siblings would not have the three-mile ride or sometimes walk to and from school. Also, a bigger house was needed with the arrival of the eighth child.

Minnie attended elementary school in Rhineland, Grade 9 at Beatty Collegiate in Swift Current, Grade 10 and 11 at IBC (International Bible School in Moose Jaw). She returned to Beatty Collegiate in Swift Current for Grade 12 and graduated in 1969.

Minnie was always a very good student, conscientious and hardworking. Her lifelong habit of copious notes started in her early years. She enjoyed reading and was a collector of books, photos, and everything sentimental. She enjoyed the great outdoors, hiking, biking, skating, and campfires. In later years she became an avid curling fan. When it came to board games, Minnie could be rather competitive.

After high school Minnie attended Central Pentecostal College in Saskatoon for a year and then nurses training at the General Hospital in Regina. Minnie and her colleagues lived in the nurse's residence beside the hospital. All classes and Practicums took place on site. The RN class of ‘72 was an impressive site with carefully pressed uniforms, starched hats, polished shoes and the signature navy blue cape with red interior.

Minnie’s first nursing job was at the General, then a four-month summer job at Meadow Lake, Sk., followed by 14 years at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. After 16 years as a hospital nurse Minnie attended the U of S and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1988 she moved to a house in Fort Qu’Appelle, and began her career as a public health nurse. A few years later she moved to Regina, and continued serving the small rural communities north of the Regina.

Minnie enjoyed the camaraderie of her Regina office, and she liked the baby clinics, and the variety of care provided, but the long drives to remote communities on icy winter roads forced her to change jobs once again. For the next 5 years. Minnie worked at Pioneer Village long term care in Regina.

After 33 years of nursing Minnie retired, and moved to Swift Current to care for our mother, and to be closer to family. Until Mom's passing Minnie was her constant companion, caregiver, always keeping Mom supplied with goodies, puzzles, and entertaining those who came to visit.

Shortly after moving to Swift Current, Minnie took a part-time position as an educational assistant. She cared deeply for her young vulnerable students. She instinctively knew how to connect with them, and how to take care of their needs.

July 29, 2025, Minnie suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Minnie passed to be with her Lord and Savior at the Swift Current Hospital on August 1st, 2025, surrounded by family.

Minnie was predeceased by her father John Rempel (Dec 23, 1999), her mother Helena (Funk) Rempel (Aug 19, 2017), her sister Betty (Rempel) Lagler (Nov 1, 2016), her brother Victor Rempel (Feb 15, 2018). her sister-in-law, Marian (Sauder) Rempel and her niece Karen Rempel (Oct 27, 1979), her nephew Sheldon Lagler (Sept 13, 2021), and her sister-in-law, Freda (Zacharias) Rempel (Dec 31, 2018).

Minnie leaves to cherish her memory her siblings, Hilda Beisel, Marge Wiens, Walter (Gladys) Rempel, Reuben (Beth) Rempel, Neil (Faye) Rempel, Leonard (Cheri) Rempel, Lorraine (Garth) Taylor, Ken (Carol) Rempel, Elsie (Rempel) Holderbein), Arnold Rempel, and Robert (Janine) Rempel; and by her beloved numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Our beloved sister and Auntie will always be remembered for her kind, caring, compassionate ways. She adored her nieces and nephews, always eager to hear from them. She loved receiving photos and faithfully kept the dates of birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries.

Minnie believed and lived her faith. She knew that to be great in God's Kingdom “is to be the servant of all.”

Rest dear sister, your work on Earth is done.
