Obituary of Marlene Sansregret
SANSREGRET – Marlene with deep sadness the family of Marlene Sansregret wish to announce her passing on Tuesday April 29th. Mom was born April 15th 1938 in Meadow Lake. She leaves to mourn her children Barbara, Shannon – son in law Wil, Lori son-in-law Ray, and son Trevor. Her beloved grandchildren Corey, Erin (Dave), Nolan, Colby and Aysha. She was predeceased by her husband Herman, parents Viola and Hugh King, brothers Wayne (in infancy) and Ron. In laws Julia and Harris Sansregret, and son-in-law Ed Feil.
In her early years she told of many adventures and hardships while living on the farm with her Dad, Mom and brother Ron. The old saying of “walking up hill both ways” to school was true for her and Ron. Mom moved to Meadow Lake and lived with her paternal grandparents to attend High School. After graduation she worked in the laundry and kitchen at the hospital. Mom and Dad were married in 1956. They lived in Meadow Lake and welcomed daughter Barbara. Dad moved south to Sceptre to pursue work to support his little family. Mom joined him and Shannon was born two years later. Lori was born 5 years later and 6 years later Trevor completed our family. Dad worked for Sask Wheat Pool and moved Mom and us kids to a few small towns. We had a stay at home Mom to cook us our favorite meals and keep us happy. Mom was very social and made lasting friendships wherever they lived. Mom and Dad loved camping. We always had wonderful summer vacations.
Mom was very active and enjoyed playing tennis, golf and curling. Her and Dad spent many hours in their yard in Cabri making it immaculate. She joined the Prairie Players Drama Club and tried her hand in acting as well as directing. She started painting classes and made some beautiful artwork for us to cherish.
Mom kept a daily journal for over 35 years. Sometimes just to say what the weather was like and other times giving us a glimpse into her busy life. Mom also kept what she called her “funny book”. She wrote about funny things that were said and done by family and friends over the years. We love to reminisce and have good laughs reading these stories. These books are a true treasure and we are so grateful to have them.
In December 1995 Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She battled hard and was in remission for several years until the cancer returned. Her and Dad lived in Regina while she underwent radiation treatment. True to form Mom made the best of the situation and formed more close friendships.
They moved to Swift Current in 2016 to The Prairie View Lodge. Dad lived there for a short time before moving into long term care. Mom made her apartment home for the next 8 years. She was an active tenant helping with weekly coffee times and attending all social events. She found many close friends there to keep her company and play cards.
In October 2024 Mom received the devastating news that cancer had once again come back. She tried very hard to fight again, but was admitted to the hospital in January, moved to the Clover House and then to Gull Lake Special Care Centre where she passed away. Our family would like to thank Stephanie and all the caregivers for providing Mom with great care and compassion. We will miss her dearly and treasure all the good memories.
Her memorial service will be held at 1 PM on May 5th, 2025, at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, with Deacon David Hagel Officiating. A reception will follow the service in the chapel.
The family asks that any donations in Marlene's memory be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, designated toward Breast Cancer Research. (Online:https://cancerfoundationsask.akaraisin.com/ui/donate/donations/start)
