Obituary of Dixie Lee Lott
The family of Dixie Lee Lott are saddened to announce her passing on April 10, 2025, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Dixie Lee was born April 14, 1959 in Kincaid Saskatchewan to proud parents Les & Etta Lott. Dixie was a busy girl from the moment she could walk. She was a determined girl who once she set her mind on something she was off to do it and not much could change her mind! As a young girl Dixie attended Kincaid School and from there she went to the residential school in Assiniboia. Each week she met up with two other friends who attended school in Assiniboia with her, the parents taking turns driving to Assiniboia to drop them off for school for the week on Sunday evenings and the next parent would be there to pick them up each Friday afternoon. Dixie met many friends while attending school there. She would be quick to tell you that she didn’t like going to school there but if asked why she couldn’t really tell you but was very happy that they helped her with reading and writing. While attending school there. she was able to compete in Special Olympic sports, even getting to attend the large Special Olympics event in Winnipeg where she competed with others in track and field. She also received a gold medal in bowling! She did very well!
At the age of 18 she moved to Saskatoon and lived there for 2 years and then moved back to Kincaid. She then moved on to Swift Current where she lived in a group home setting working in the abilities workshop there. She later moved out on her own and lived in her apartment in Swift Current she so cherished and loved being in for over 30 years. She was in the hub of the city and could walk to the library which she did frequently to borrow many books, movies, music cd's and audio books. She really like superheroes and sometimes would fantasize being a superhero with many great powers. She was an avid writer with impeccable writing and printing skills. She loved to write stories and make all kinds of lists. She most likely owned the most pencils, paper and erasers anyone could possibly own, but she always thought she never had enough!! If the eraser wore off her pencil it wasn’t used again. Dixie loved her time coming home on holidays and getting to spend time with family and eat moms home cooking!
After a weekend though she was ready to go back to her apartment. She loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen and would come out with things just to get peoples attention! She wasn’t shy and said Hello to everyone she came across! She had all the time in the world to visit, never in a rush.
Dixie was diagnosed with cancer a little over two years ago. She knew she had cancer but when asked how she was doing we always heard " I'm fine, just fine", she never complained and carried on with her day. She really was able to live her best life these past few years and loved every outing she was on. She even like her weekly outing for blood work and then a few days later for infusions at the hospital. The nurses were so good to her when she was there. Dixie was able to remain her home and passed peacefully in her sleep April 10th pain free and with her wish to stay in her apartment. She would have been so proud to know that she had firefighters, police and EMS people are her home the day she passed away and we can all hear her say well " Hello Handsome". Dixie we will miss your many stories and weekly phone calls with " How ya doing? Guess what my blood sugar is at today?" Rest in peace Dixie, until we meet again!
Dixie leaves to cherish her memory, her son Michael and grandson Rufus, mother, Henrietta Lott, Sister, Darcel (Joe) Davidson, Brother Steve, Sister Diana (Marty), Brother Darren (Jody), Brother Jeremy (Monique) as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Special Aunt Shirley Mullenix.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday April 17th, at 2 PM, at the Kincaid Club 50 Hall on Main Street.
