Sherry Hollinger Obituary

Sharon Lynn Hollinger

August 11, 1947 – March 31, 2025

With deep sorrow, we share the passing of Sherry Hollinger, who left us peacefully at the age of 77 on March 31, 2025, at Swift Current Hospital, with her family by her side.

Sharon “Sherry” Lynn (Sielsky) Hollinger was born on August 11, 1947, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Morris and Sophia (Wadaiko) Sielsky, and later welcomed her younger brother, Terry. The family eventually relocated to Saskatoon, where Sherry attended Catholic school until she started working at Park Town Motor Hotel.

Summers were often spent at her grandmother Anne and Uncle Russell’s farm in Plainsview, where she enjoyed farm life, riding horses, and caring for the animals. When Anne and Russell later moved to Melville, Sherry continued to visit and cherish her time there. At the age of 17, while in Melville, she was introduced to Ken, and the two quickly fell in love.

Shortly after, the whole family moved back to Vancouver, and Ken followed. While in Vancouver, Sherry worked at Vancouver General Hospital. After two years on the coast, Ken accepted a job back in Saskatchewan, and the couple returned to Saskatoon where they were married on May 18, 1968. This year would have marked their 57th wedding anniversary.

The family moved several times over the years in support of Ken’s career, building meaningful connections in every community they called home. The family spent time in Rycroft, Coronation, Bow Island, and Spirit River before retiring to Swift Current in 2006.

While in Coronation, Sherry worked in housekeeping at the Coronation Hospital and Nursing Home. She took great pride in her seven years of service and often spoke fondly of her time there. Sherry was also a proud and active member of the Canadian Royal Purple Society, always finding ways to give back to her community.

Sherry enjoyed bowling, watching curling, traveling across Saskatchewan and Alberta to visit loved ones, and making new friendships along the way. Of all her joys, none were greater than the time she spent with her family.

Sherry will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ken; her two daughters, Heather (Kerry) Rude and Jody (Brian) Wilson, and her two sons, Cory and Kevin Hollinger; three granddaughters Kendall (Dakota) Rude and Kiara and Chloe Wilson; sister-in-law Geraldine Ward; brother-in-law Randy (Dorothy) Hollinger; sister-in-law Ann Hollinger; her aunt Barbara Widaiko; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Predeceased by her parents, Morris and Sophia Sielsky; parents-in-law John and Evelyn Hollinger; brother Terry Sielsky; and brothers-in-law Mervin Hollinger and Robert Ward.

Sherry's warmth, wit, and loyalty to family will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on May 3rd, 2025, at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home (69 4th Ave NE) in Swift Current. A reception will follow the service in the chapel.
