Obituary of George Frederick Weinbender
George Frederick Weinbender (March 18, 1945 – March 3, 2025)
It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of George Frederick Weinbender on March 3, 2025, at Swift Current Hospital, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
George was born on March 18, 1945, in Herbert, Saskatchewan, and spent his early years on the family farm near Ernfold. In his early 20s, he set his sights on Swift Current after a brief stop in Gull Lake, where he worked for the local grocer.
George is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Gail, and his three children: Kevin (Nancy) Stewart, Curtis Weinbender, and Jacqui (Steve) Acree. He will be deeply missed by his siblings: Ron (Karen) Weinbender, Les (Phyllis) Weinbender, Doreen Martin, Dianna Dwelle, Terry Weinbender, and Melanie (John) Weinbender. His grandchildren, Danielle and Tyler Stewart, Sam and Ava Acree, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, will forever cherish his memory.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Martha Weinbender, and his grandparents, George and Katherina Wunsch and Fred and Anne Weinbender.
George’s professional life was dedicated to helping others. After working at Safeway in Swift Current, he discovered a passion for sales, working with companies such as Filter Queen and Conklin, before finding his true calling in Life Insurance and Financial Planning with Lutheran Life and retiring from Canada Life in approximately 2005 . Through his work, he guided many in planning for their futures and ensuring financial security for their families. An avid outdoorsman, George found great joy in hunting, fishing, and camping with Gail and his two furry companions, Bella and Shadow. He was well known for his skill in coyote hunting, often selling the processed fur to dealers to support his hobby.
George had a natural gift for conversation, always eager to engage in discussions about the financial markets and politics with his favorite uncle, cousin, and friends. His warmth, humor, and wisdom will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at 2:00 on March 8th at the Parkside Funeral Home located at 69, 4th Avenue NE in Swift Current. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Swift Current SPCA or the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS).
