Obituary of Nick Wall

Please share a memory of Nick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Wall, age 92 who passed away on February 27, 2025, at the Meadows Healthcare Facility with family by his side.

Nick was born on September 18, 1932, in the Swift Current District to Jacob and Katherina Wall. He spent his early years in Springfeld, SK. Nick was the youngest in a family of nine and was showered with love and attention. He attended Amphion School and early in his teens began a lifelong career of carpentry in Swift Current.

Nick was a skilled journeyman finishing carpenter who dedicated his career to the construction industry. His craftmanship and attention to detail were evident in the homes built for his family. After marrying Mary Giesbrecht on July 10, 1955, Nick constructed their first home on 9th Ave. N.W. in Swift Current, followed by a second home in 1963 on 3rd Ave. S.E. where they shared 52 wonderful years together. Their life was filled with love and family as they welcomed two daughters: Sheila in 1959 and Janice in 1962.

Woodworking was not just Nick’s profession but also his passion. He spent countless hours in his workshop creating beautiful pieces from wood, a talent that brought joy to both him and those who were recipients of his work. Nick also took great pride in maintaining his yard and home, ensuring everything was cared for with precision and dedication. Beyond his carpentry skill, he found fulfillment on his farms near Pennant and Swift Current, where he enjoyed being close to nature and the tranquility of rural life which were reminiscent of his childhood.

Nick’s faith played a central role throughout his life. He served faithfully in various capacities at Zion Mennonite Church demonstrating his commitment to his beliefs and community. His gift of woodworking was something that he blessed his church with by building various pieces for the sanctuary. The church blessed him with an active social life and many treasured friends.

In 2015, Nick and Mary embraced a new chapter of their lives when they moved to Riverview Village Estates. Later, in 2024, Nick transitioned to Cypress House and then The Meadows as part of his journey.

Nick was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Katherina Wall, as well as all eight of his siblings and their spouses: Jake (Sally) Wall, Kay (Art) Gibbs, Con (Nevzin) Wall, Mary (Herman) Peters, Henry Wall, Abe (Joyce) Wall, John Wall, and Ann (Elmer) Klassen. He was also predeceased by his parents in law Peter and Sarah Giesbrecht, his brothers in law: John Braun, John Friesen and Wayne Schacher; and his nephews: Bill Gibbs, Randy Braun and Arden Giesbrecht.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Mary: his daughters Sheila (Randy) Sommerfeld and Janice (Donald) Klassen; his loving grandchildren: Jaclyn (Matt) Chute, Jason Sommerfeld (Jessica Bochek), Kalon Sommerfeld (Taylor Zaporaniuk), Jarrod (Brandi) Klassen and Landen Klassen; along with three cherished great-grandchildren: Winston Chute, Danae Chute and Reese Klassen. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Nick’s legacy of craftmanship, devotion to family and steadfast faith will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him deeply.

The family gratefully appreciates all the care and support to Nick by the staff at Riverview Village Estates, Cypress House and the Meadows.
