KOEHLER - Jean

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Jean Koehler. She passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 10, 2025 in Swift Current Sask.

Jean was born in High River Alberta on September 18th, 1940, daughter of Hugh and Elma Jackson, predeceased by her husband Glen Koehler, son Lynn Koehler and brother Walter Jackson. She is survived by daughter-in-law Leanne Koehler, her son Terry Koehler and his wife Lorraine. As well as Terry’s family: Daniel McIntyre (Kimberlie), Samantha Koehler, Jenifer Klassen (Levi), Jesse Koehler (Jennifer), and honorary adopted grandson Garrison Krabsen (Joanna). She was Great Grandma Nanny to fourteen great grand children.

Jean grew up in Alberta until her dad, Hugh, was hired to by Mobil Oil to be foreman of the first oil field in Saskatchewan. Her family moved to Pennant in her eighth grade of school. They lived there for two years. Once the Mobil Oil foreman home was finished, they moved to Fosterton Sask, by Battery 1. Jean completed high school in Hazlet SK. She then went off to college in Calgary for secretarial school. She graduated college and worked for Standard Oil for six months before returning to Hazlet to marry her high school sweetheart, Glen Koehler. Their boys Lynn and Terry kept Jean on her toes. Glen and Jean worked for Mobil Oil and farmed with Glen’s parents. During this time Jean also put her secretarial and bookkeeping skills to work for Jarrod Oils Ltd. Upon Glen’s passing in 2020, Jean moved into the Riverview for the remaining years of her life, enjoying her time there.

Jean was loving, caring and respected by all who knew her. Jean was a devoted Christian and wife who loved her husband and children very much. Jean made all her family feel loved and she considered them her greatest accomplishment in life. She loved baking and is well known for her butter tarts and her pickled carrots. Jean also enjoyed gardening and spent a lot of time outdoors. Jean and Glen loved to camp and spent many years at Lac Pelletier with friends and family. She had many fond memories of those days. You could often find Jean playing games with friends and family (crazy rummy, yatzee, flip it). Jean never missed a birthday with any of the grandchildren or great grandchildren, handwriting all their birthday cards. Jean always visited into the late hours of the night with her children and grandchildren.

Jean will be missed by us all and if she could have left us with anything it would have been this advice: “always put yourself in someone else’s shoes”. A small memorial will be held later for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer society.

A Come & Go Memorial Tea will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Riverview Village Estates - 1102 2nd Ave. S.E. Swift Current, SK.
