Terry Guenther Obituary

GUENTHER – Terry Lee  - August 21, 1952 - February 7, 2025

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Terry Lee Guenther on February 7, 2025, at the Maple Creek Integrated Health Facility, with his sons by his side.

Terry was the eldest child of Allan and Mabel Guenther (Spitzer), and brother to Neil, Bonnie, and Ross.  He grew up on the farm near Hallonquist, Saskatchewan.  Hallonquist was home for his entire life. He attended school at a two-room school in Hallonquist for the early grades and then in Hodgeville up to Grade 12. Terry took a year of University in Saskatoon. Terry farmed with his Dad and two brothers.  He was also a Sask Crop Insurance claims adjuster and served as a councillor for the RM of Coulee for twelve years and as Reeve for one term.

As a younger man, he enjoyed various volunteer activities, especially his participation in the Hallonquist Town & Country Club.  He worked in the Annual Hallonquist Rodeo office-sound booth for many years.    Terry was also on the Lac Pelletier Park Board for a few terms and he enjoyed taking entries and organizing the first few years of the annual Slow Pitch Tournament. In his youth, Terry was an athlete.  Terry’s mother often recalled how Terry practiced his high jumping at the farm by jumping over her clothesline, which resulted in a broken arm.  His favourite sports were baseball and curling.  In his high school years, he was on a Hodgeville baseball team that competed in the Provincials.  He was a fine back catcher  He played  senior and then 35 and over baseball well into his adult years.   He enjoyed coaching his sons’ ball teams in Vanguard. Terry was an enthusiastic fisherman, both summer and winter.  Fishing trips to BC with his adult sons and to northern Saskatchewan with some neighbours were good memories for him.  He always enjoyed playing cards at the hall in Hallonquist and in later years in Hodgeville.

He was known to entertain his sons, nieces, and nephews when they were children.  His nephews still laugh and retell the story of how Uncle Terry was showing them his moves on the trampoline, and how his impressive stunt went wrong.  Terry will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.

Terry is survived by his two sons and their families:  Carson (Karen, Brady, Jackson) and Matthew (Janelle, Rylan, Owen, Jaxon). He is also survived by his three siblings and spouses, Neil (Karen), Bonnie (Dave), Ross (Gwen); friend, Donna; nieces and nephews - Melanie, Bryce, Brett, Fred, Nathan, Justin, Jeff, Andrea, Evan and Garett; mother of his sons, Karen; and numerous cousins.

Terry was predeceased by his father Allan (Della) and his mother Mabel McLeod (Mel Teulon) and by his brother-in-law, Bill Middlemiss.

The family extends their gratitude to the doctors and health care workers who cared for Terry during his time in the Swift Current Hospital, Clover House, and the Maple Creek Integrated Healthcare Facility.  Also thanks to family and friends who visited, phoned, and supported Terry during his hospital and care home stay.

A come-and-go celebration of life will be held at the Eagles Hall in Swift Current on May 17, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00PM .  A private family interment will take place at Memory Gardens in Swift Current.
